August House Project Notes

New Roof

The old roof on the house was metal and starting to come off as you can see below.

Old Roof

The first step before replacing it was to remove all the old metal roof and the underlying plywood and insulation.

Removing Roof

We are getting regular thunder showers each afternoon so the roof is covered with blue tarps to protect the ceiling.

Here is what the house looks like from across our pond.

Roof Covered with Tarps

The new eaves have been extended to provide a bit more shading in the summer.

New Eaves

Once the old material was out the new insulation could be installed. We decided to use foam insulation as we can go from R-19 to R-35 in the same thickness. On foaming day the truck arrives and the crew starts to work.

Insulation

As the first layer is installed the electrical cables for the lights and ceiling fans are buried in the insulation.

Roof Insulation

Roof Insulation

It takes lots of practice to spray the insulation in the correct place without causing it to foam where you don't want it.

Roof Insulation

The first side of the roof is finished.

The back side of the roof is done the same way.

Roof Insulation

Once the insulation is in the rest of the eaves extensions are installed.

Eave Extensions

Now they are putting the plywood back on and getting ready to install the tar paper and new roof material.

Here is what it looks like now, ready for the new metal roof material.
