August 2003The hops have done well. There are clearly several varieties that are doing well here and some that are not doing well at all. We have cones on Chinook and Red Vine again and one Vanguard has a few cones. We harvested the hops August 31. After letting them all dry at room temperature we measured the quantity produced.A Set - Mulched Plants
Plant A-1 Chinook produced 0.6 oz of dry hops. B Set - No Mulch Plants
Plant B-6 Canadian Red Vine produced 1.0 ox of dry hops. Individual Plant Picures Here is the gallery of pictures of all the plants on 29 August 2003.

Mulching As part of the test one set of vines was selected for mulching using waste wool. We elected to mulch the A set the first year. The mulched plants had much better survivability and overall vigor so mulching is a very good idea. We plan to mulch all plants this coming winter.
